Chicago – Grammy Award winner R. Kelly was arrested in Chicago for federal sex crimes charges, according to NBC News, citing unidentified law enforcement agencies.

Kelly's 52-year-old R & B singer was arrested on Thursday at the New York City Police Detectives and Internal Security Investigations Department, and is expected to be sent to New York, the agency reports.

Earlier in the day, Chicago, Sun-Times reported that Kelly faced an indictment on a sexual offense of 13 numbers, referring to the office of the United States Public Prosecutor.

The R & B singer rigorously denied accusations of abuse for decades. In 2008, he was tried on charges of child pornography and found innocent.

Sun-Times claimed that Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg on Thursday confirmed the arrest, but declined to report details.

Greenberg was not immediately available for Reuters comments.

The Chicago Police handed all questions on this issue to the US Attorney's Office or the New York Police, but the representatives were not immediately available for comment.

In June, Kelly did not plead guilty in the 11 crimes of sexual violence and ill-treatment at a Chicago court hearing after prosecutors expanded the prosecution's sentence against him.

These estimates, promulgated at the end of May in the indictment of the Grand Jury of Cook County, include abuse of a victim aged 13 to 16 years.

The charge was imposed on someone who was identified only as J.P., and the crimes allegedly occurred between May 2009 and January 2010.

Kelly may face up to 30 years in prison if he is convicted of these allegations.

In February, Kelly did not plead guilty to allegations that he sexually attacked three teenage girls and a fourth woman.

The allegations were made after seven women, including his ex-wife, appeared on the TV documentary Lifetime and accused him of emotional and sexual violence.

A singer, known for hits such as "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Bump N & # 39; Grind," spent the weekend in jail on charges of sex before releasing $ 100,000 on February 25th.

It was not clear whether there were new federal charges against Kelly with previous cases. It is not clear where he is being held or when he & # 39; ll appear before a judge regarding new allegations.
