UPDATE: Malahat opened in both directions following a car fire
Drive BC says the road will be closed until about 3pm
UPDATE: 2:30 p.m.
Drive BC says that the Trans Canada highway has been reopened in both directions to the north of the Malahat summit.
The left path is still a barrier to traffic around the north.
UPDATE – OPEN – # BCHwy1 in both directions 1 km to the north of #Malahat cup following a vehicle fire. The left lane is still stopped in the north. Cleaning up, watch for crews and drive with a warning #VanIsle

Emergency crews respond to a car fire on the Malahat.
Traffic has stopped in both directions around a kilometer to the north of the Malahat Summit.
The vehicle fire is between Whittaker Road and Mill Bay Road, and all lanes are blocked.
#BREAKIO: There is a full car on the Malahat this hour. Fire crews respond. It is expected that traffic will affect it #yytraffic

According to Drive BC, the road is expected to reopen for 3 p.m.
