The Ethiopian Electricity Company (EEP) has designated April 18, 2021 as the start of a drilling campaign for the 70 MW Aluto Langano geothermal project in Ethiopia.

Announced on the state website of the Ethiopian Electricity, CEO Asheber Balcha directed the Aluto Langano geothermal expansion project to start drilling on April 18, 2021.

According to him, water supply is crucial for the continuation of the project and called for the remaining works to be completed as soon as possible.

Acef Nigusse, executive director of generation construction, and representatives of the World Bank, which finances the project, praised the ongoing work.

The Aluto Langano geothermal power plant has a capacity of 7.5 MW, but has not been in operation for a long time, and the expansion project plans to add 70 MW of geothermal energy generation capacity.
