Apple recently released its new iPhone 12. Then it became clear that the company no longer intends to connect the power adapter and earbuds to the box – even in the most expensive model, which costs 13,990 kroons, it will be standard.
Apple justifies this by saying that it helps reduce carbon emissions, making the boxes smaller and lighter all the time. The company itself says they can now carry 70 percent more per pallet. The provision will also apply to older models that are still in the range.

– And worse
The UN report estimates the amount of EE waste generated in the world in 2019 at 53.6 million tons, writes DinSide.no, and in this sense it seems like a logical direction. In addition, power adapters and headphones are something that most of us already have.
“Apple customers already have more than 700 million headphones, and there are more than two billion Apple adapters worldwide,” said Apple Vice President Lisa Jackson in connection with the launch of the iPhone 12.
In addition, Jackson argued that the move could be compared to removing 450,000 cars from the road each year.
However, many have noted that the cable that comes with the new iPhone is a USB-C cable that is not compatible with the chargers that came with previous iPhones. Until now, all chargers have been compatible with the larger and wider USB-A standard.
Among those who respond is the Norwegian Nature Conservation Association.
– When things are more expensive, it usually means that you take better care of them. And there is no doubt that many households have far more chargers than they need, precisely because a new one is always included. Something that is an additional dimension to this is the chargers for specific brands, says Slie Lundberg Nettavisen, leader of the Nature Conservation Association.
– What all mobile companies should do is switch to universal chargers, as the EU has said in the past. – At the same time, Apple is anything but an environmental beacon. They deliberately complicate the repair of their mobile phones and are the worst in the industry. Apple has filed a lawsuit, among other things, against a Ski repairman who repaired an iPhone because he did not use original Apple parts.

– Deceives consumers
The MDGs are also responding to Apple’s new move.
Hulda Holtvedt is a spokeswoman for the Green Party, and she describes it all as a “green wash.”
– I think it’s not like a real climate event from Apple. It seems that we are talking about getting the most money from the consumer. This is what is called “green washing”. We welcome companies that want to take social responsibility and make it more environmentally friendly, and then Apple should rather start by increasing the durability of the phone and its batteries. They have a business model that means consumers will often buy new products, says Gottvett Nettavisen.
– It would be better than to deceive consumers that this is an environmental measure when it comes to avarice.

Holtvett goes on to explain that green laundry is a form of caring for the environment when it comes to completely different things, such as making money on your own. When Apple then says it’s an environmental measure, it’s certainly good for their marketing product. However, the consumer must be able to distinguish good initiatives from the business community and what is simply a way of selling, says the politician.
– Apple has a business model, which means that their validity expires or is destroyed in a few years. One solution may be to require durability labels on products so that consumers know more about what type of durability they may belong to.
