Why the incidence of influenza fell sharply in 2021. Where did the flu |

Ural doctors emphasize that this year vaccination could protect us from the flu. According to Rospotrebnadzor, in the pre-epidemic season of 2020-2021, 62% of the population of the Sverdlovsk region was vaccinated, in the same period of 2019-2020 – 54.4%, in 2018-2019 – 49.4%, in 2017-2018- m – 43.9%, in 2016-2017 – 40.3%, and in 2015-2016 – 37.9%. Doctors say that the reduction in the incidence of influenza depends on vaccination coverage.

We can assume that this year all efforts are aimed at detecting and treating coronavirus infection, so the flu is not detected. But doctors refute this theory. The Rospotrebnadzor explained that there is a global system of influenza surveillance all over the world, including Russia.

– All over Russia reference bases are defined, and every week a certain number of samples of fresh patients is taken on them, – told in Rosspotrebnadzor. – This is done during the first five days of the patient’s illness. They are tested for coronavirus, respiratory panel, and influenza viruses. This network successfully catches all circulating pathogens. But the flu almost did not get into the network, so its circulation has really decreased.
