Unhealthy lifestyles can cause diabetes in children



More than 90 per cent of all diabetes cases in the world are diabetes mellitus of the second type, which, according to experts, has a particular influence on lifestyle and the environment .

He was once once diabetic, but he is already present in children and youth. "The most important factor in developing type 2 diabetes is too heavy and obesity," Deputy Chairman of the Slovak Diabetes Society (SDS) Zbynek Schroner said. He added that it is the reason for overweight and obesity among young people Poor food with too many high energy foods, low fiber.

"We're talking about what's called Coca-Colonization of the Way of Life," says Schroner. An important factor, according to him, is a sedentary lifestyle for children already. The number of type 2 diabetes is different in different countries. We can say a significant increase in the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Thailand and Japan. In Europe, diabetes mellitus of the second type is often found in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Malta or Western Europe countries, but according to Schroner, an increasing number of cases also occur in Central and Eastern Europe. Slovakia is only rarely present. "But we're worried that this situation will get worse," he said.

Medicines are not the basis of prevention and treatment, but non-thermal measures, ie healthy diet and exercise. "A great role plays as parents lead children to live properly. It's very important that children are being deprived, so bike practice is not a good choice, for example, skating, dancing or sewing, " says Schroner. However, it adds that it is important for diabetes to be a whole society.

"Genes allow second type diabetes, but they do not," says Viera Doničová or SDS. Genetic tendency for the development of type 2 diabetes is not an adequate condition for the disease to occur. "Risk factors such as diabetes cases in relation to a direct family or high blood sugar in the past are important. Increasing risk is also present in women who have previously diabetes, people with high blood pressure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and past or past heart disease, " add Doničová.

Patients with a certain risk factor should be tested once a year. Even in patients who do not have a risk factor, it is recommended that the blood sugar level be tested every three years. According to the Diabetes Prevention Program 2002, people with high blood sugar levels reduced the risk of diabetes by 31 per cent compared to patients who did not have any active substance. Physical activity reduced the risk of diabetes by 58 percent. "It's never too late to start practicing or changing your eating habits," said Katarina Rašlová, chairman of the SDK. He also considers it important to raise people's awareness of healthy foods.
